Our mission

When you’re sick or injured, it’s the ordinary things like time with loved ones and personal independence that you miss the most.

UK HealthCare is here to help you get back to those little moments that mean more than anything else.

It may seem ordinary, but ask anyone who’s gotten a second chance to experience the everyday magic of life.

MEET ALISON BLANTON.

She always had an independent streak. But when a car accident in her teenage years left her paralyzed, Alison Blanton lost the ability to perform the everyday tasks most of us take for granted.

Seemingly simple activities like brushing her own hair or cooking for herself became impossible, and instead she relied on constant care from family like her beloved grandmother.

Dr. Chase Kluemper at UK HealthCare’s Hand Center (opens in new tab) —one of the area’s leading experts in orthopaedic hand, wrist and elbow surgery—performed a rare procedure that helped restore Alison’s fine motor skills.

“It completely changed my life,” she says.

Today, though still reliant on a wheelchair, Alison has regained the ability to use her hands and care for herself. She’s even taken up a new hobby of making bracelets for the people she loves.

It may seem ordinary. But to Alison, this second chance at independence feels nothing short of extraordinary.
