Ordinary is extraordinary

Our mission

When you’re sick or injured, it’s the ordinary things like time with loved ones and personal independence that you miss the most.

UK HealthCare is here to help you get back to those little moments that mean more than anything else.

It may seem ordinary, but ask anyone who’s gotten a second chance to experience the everyday magic of life.

Ordinary is extraordinary.

He’s finally back to taking it slow.

MEET ANDY BIERMANN.

“It was something I couldn’t ignore anymore,” he remembers.

Experts at UK HealthCare’s Gill Heart & Vascular Institute discovered that Andy’s heart was failing to pump blood effectively, and a temporary pump was surgically inserted to help deliver blood and oxygen through the 60,000 miles of vessels in his body.

Ultimately, though, he would need a heart transplant.

Andy’s new heart arrived quickly and viably thanks to an advanced machine called TransMedics OCS Heart.

Allowing transplant hearts to be preserved longer and transported farther, UK HealthCare is the largest user of this new technology in the region, making more donor hearts than ever available to patients in Kentucky and improving outcomes for recipients like Andy.

Today, only a year after his successful heart transplant, Andy is back to his old self. His weekends, no longer lost to fatigue, are once again filled with long walks and road trips with Sarabeth.

It may seem ordinary. But, to Andy, it certainly doesn’t feel that way.
